Oh Look! It’s November…Novel Writing Time

It’s November and usually about mid-October I think about joining National Novel Writing Month. I know there was a bit of a kerfuffle earlier in the year, and kind of looked into it. Well, I don’t have time for drama, sorry, and at this point, it appears that things have been worked out, so I figured I’d give it a go. My current day job allows me time to write. Not at work, I’d feel guilty…but during the evenings and weekends I can write instead of spending that time planning lessons. At the same time, I work with children in crisis, and doing so puts everything else into perspective. When your basic needs aren’t met, nothing else matters. How lucky am I that I don’t have that problem? It has led me to practice gratitude and grace in many aspects of my life. (Not all of them yet, but I’m getting there!) Therefore, I decided to return to my beloved NaNoWriMo and try, once again, to NOT fail. At this point, it isn’t quite to the point of trying to see how few words I can write, but it’s close! Last year, I didn’t participate and the year before, I failed miserably with Honor Bound. (Of course, I went on to write the rest of the book, nearly 80K words, in just over a month and a half…after November ended.)

This year, I’ve been slow-rolling two novels at the same time. Their working titles are A Dragon for Darius and Slipping Silver. I’ve been working exclusively on Slipping Silver, which is the new Milia of Moonlight novel, for the last month, so I’m entering it as my NaNoWriMo novel this year. To avoid cheating I’m not going to count the nearly 8,000 words already written. We’ll start with yesterday’s words and go from there.

You can find my Project page here. Likely, I’ll only update the word counts every Saturday night. Wish me luck! For good measure, I’ll keep updating Darius as well, if the muse won’t talk to me about werewolves. You’ll notice that the cover is hidden. I’m keeping that under wraps for a reveal when the work is closer to being finished…say, 50,000 words.

Wish me luck!

Current Word Count Dragon for Darius: 8206

Current Word Count Slipping Silver: 7809
